September 9 2009 – Nora Spinks, President, Work-Life Harmony Enterprises Nora Spinks is the founder and president of Work-Life Harmony Enterprises, an international research and consulting firm based in Toronto, Canada. October 7 2009 – Tosca Reno, Fitness Model and Author of the Eat Clean Diet Series Tosca Reno, who once weighed over 200 lbs, shares her journey to becoming fit and how you can do it too! November 4 2009 – Formal Networking Evening & MLM Trade Fair This is a great opportunity for you to show the rest of the network what you and your business are all about! December 2 2009 – Annual Christmas Dinner and Fundraising Auction To date, the WBN has raised at total of $128,000 for the YWCA Crossroads Women’s Shelter. This year's goal is to make that number $150,000! To do it we need to raise $22,000 and we NEED YOUR HELP! We're starting earlier this year so put on your thinking caps now for wonderful items and packages to donate. With silent and live auctions, live music and fabulous food, it’s sure to draw another record crowd. February 3 2010 – Annual Health Fair featuring Dr. Rosana Pellizzari, MOH, Peterborough City-County Health Unit Dr. Pellizzari will be presenting, WOMEN HOLD UP HALF THE SKY. Prior to moving from Toronto Public Health to Peterborough, Dr. Pellizzari has been a health columnist for the Toronto Star in the past and co-hosted a daily TV health show. Before specializing in Community Medicine, Dr. Pellizzari worked as a Family Physician in Hamilton and Toronto. She is Past President of the Association of Ontario Health Centres and a former Chair of the City of York Board of Health. March 3 2010 – Edward Loyst, CEO & Executive Chairman, Franchise Bancorp Inc. Living Lighting was founded in 1968 by Edward Loyst who is now the chairman and CEO of Franchise Bancorp Inc. Living Lighting grew into Canada's largest chain of franchised residential lighting stores. In 1978 Loyst launched Panhandler Gift Stores which over the years has grown to include Rafters Home Stores. In 1997 Franchise Bancorp Inc. was created to consolidate existing corporate businesses and to acquiring growing chains. The company went public and is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange as FBI. In 1998, Franchise Bancorp acquired the Ryan's Pet Food company and Global Pet Foods company. These two speciality pet food companies were merged into the Global/Ryans Pet Food company and a new natural pet food niche was targeted. The division has grown to over 100 stores across Canada. Edward will be addressing such issues as entrepreneurship, franchising your business, and surviving a bank attack. You won't want to miss this one! April 7 2010 – Christine Magee, President & Co-founder, Sleep Country Canada Note: Dinner will be served early at 6:30pm. Christine Magee’s leadership and foresight led her to be recognized as one of Canada’s ‘Top 40 Under-40′ in 1997. She was named the Ontario Entrepreneur of the Year, Retail/Wholesale, by the Financial Post in 1998 and Consumers’ Choice Toronto Business Woman of the Year in 1999. Christine was the recipient of the Canadian Retailer: Winner of the CSAE Magazine Award in 2003. Christine received the Laurier Outstanding Business Leader Award from the University of Laurier in 2005. Sleep Country Canada was also inducted into the Marketing Hall of Legends in 2005 and the Retail Council of Canada Hall of Fame in 2005. May 5 2010 – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada - Note: This event is SOLD OUT! Elizabeth May is an environmentalist, writer, activist, lawyer, and the current leader of the Green Party of Canada. Tonight she will address the issues of "Green Business Ideas, Economics, and the Environment". Born in the US in 1954, Elizabeth and her family emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1973 to build a major tourism business on the Cabot Trail. She became a Canadian citizen in 1978 and earned her law degree at Dalhousie in 1983, in part due to a letter of recommendation from long-time family friend, Bill Clinton. She has worked tirelessly in government and politics for over 3 decades, protecting the rights of Canadians from the environmental standpoint. This night is open to men for attendance. June 2 2010 – Annual Year-End Summer Social for Members Only Dress Your Decade at Peterborough Golf & Country Club! Join us in ending the year with a great night of fun at the annual WBN year-end social at the Peterborough Golf & Country Club, 1030 Armour Rd. This year’s social will be themed “Dress Your Decade” where you’re encouraged to dress in the decade of your birth or your favorite decade. Whether you love the Vintage-40’s, Poodle-Skirt-50’s, Hippie-60’s, Disco-70’s, Retro-80’s or even the Grunge-90’s you’re sure to have a blast. Enjoy cocktails on the patio, dinner, dancing and prizes for the best costumes. As always, the year-end social is a members-only event. We hope to see you there!
